چکیده

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is deploying disciplined oscillators that are referenced to the UTC(NIST) time scale through common-view observations of Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites. We present measurement results from four NIST disciplined oscillators (NISTDOs), three located in the United States, and one located in Concepción, Chile. These devices replicate the NIST time scale at remote sites, and uncertainties of less than 5 ns are demonstrated at all locations. The results were verified by utilizing the national time scale of Mexico as an independent check standard. Further verification was obtained by directly comparing a NISTDO to UTC(NIST) in Boulder, Colorado.

The effects of the January 2016 UTC offset anomaly on GPS-controlled clocks monitored at NIST

Errors in the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) offset parameters broadcast by Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites caused many thousands of GPS-controlled clocks to be in error by approximately -13 μs on January 25-26, 2016. The erroneous UTC offset information was broadcast by 15 GPS satellites, or half of the available constellation, during the anomaly. This paper discusses the technica...

Remote Calibration of a GPS Timing Receiver to UTC(NIST) via the Internet*

The timing pulse from a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver is typically within 1μs of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) kept at NIST, called UTC(NIST), even if the receiver and antenna have not been calibrated for delays. However, it is not possible for most laboratories to make an accurate measurement of their GPS receiver’s time offset with respect to UTC(NIST), or to monitor its continu...

Long-baseline Comparisons of the Brazilian National Time Scale to Utc (nist) Using near Real-time and Postprocessed Solutions

We present the results of C/A code common-view Global Positioning System (GPS) comparisons between the UTC (NIST) time scale, located at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, Colorado, and the Brazilian national time scale, UTC(ONRJ), located at the National Observatory (ONRJ) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The two time scales are separated by a long baseline of ~860...

918-t Annual Precise Time and Time Interval (PTTI) Meeting COMPARISON OF ATOMIC FREQUENCY STANDARDS AT NIST AND PTB USING CARRIER- PHASE GPS

We have constructed a link between Physikalisch-Techniche Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig, Germany and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, Colorado using carrier-phase Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers. The link will provide a direct measurement of the frequency difference between UTC(PTB) and UTC(NIST), and can also be used to provide a direct comp...

A TWSTFT calibration guideline and the use of a GPS calibrator for UTC TWSTFT link calibrations

Two-Way Satellite Time and Frequency Transfer (TWSTFT) links were first introduced to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) generation in 1999. These TWSTFT links were calibrated by alignment with the corresponding GPS time links, of which the nominal uncertainty was 5 ns. In the past decade, the primary calibration technique for TWSTFT link calibrations was based on a TWSTFT mobile ground station (...
